Who this trial is looking for

This trial is looking for children and adults to assess lung function using a special type of MRI with xenon gas. Participants must be able to hold their breath for a short time during the imaging process.

Are You a Good Fit for This Trial?

You may be able to join if

  • I am 6 years old or older
  • I can hold my breath for up to 16 seconds

You may not be able to join if

  • I have a history of heart defects
  • I am pregnant or have a positive pregnancy test
  • I have uncontrolled asthma that required a rescue inhaler more than twice in the past month
  • I have had symptoms of a respiratory infection in the past week
  • My oxygen levels are below 95% when breathing room air or on my prescribed oxygen
  • I am claustrophobic and cannot tolerate being in the MRI machine
  • I have metal implants that are not allowed for MRI

About This Trial

The goal of this study is to evaluate the usefulness of hyperpolarized (HP) 129Xe (xenon) gas MRI for regional assessment of lung function in a normal population of children and adults and in adults and also in children with respiratory compromise due to a variety of diseases.
