Who this trial is looking for

This trial is looking for patients with type 2 diabetes who are severely obese. Participants will undergo different types of bariatric surgery to see how these surgeries affect their diabetes and overall health over time.

Are You a Good Fit for This Trial?

You may be able to join if

  • I have type 2 diabetes
  • I have a BMI of 35 or higher
  • My HbA1c is 6.5% or higher
  • I can give my consent

You may not be able to join if

  • I am pregnant
  • I have had past esophageal or gastric surgery
  • I have severe abdominal pain or chronic digestive issues
  • I have a history of gastric or duodenal ulcers
  • I have severe liver or kidney disease
  • I have taken corticosteroids in the last month
  • I have a psychological problem affecting my understanding
  • I have abused drugs or alcohol in the last 12 months

About This Trial
Bariatric surgery procedures induce weight loss through restriction and/or malabsorption. The mechanisms underlying type 2 diabetes remission and others metabolic improvements after Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass (RYGB), sleeve gastrectomy (SG) or biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch (BPD-DS) have not yet been formally studied.
