Who this trial is looking for

This trial is looking for women with certain types of breast cancer. Participants will take two pills daily to see if the treatment reduces cancer cells in the bone marrow.

Are You a Good Fit for This Trial?
Must not be taking Tamoxifen

You may be able to join if

  • I have been diagnosed with invasive breast cancer within the last 5 years.
  • I have completed all my primary cancer treatments at least 4 weeks ago.
  • I am at risk for breast cancer recurrence based on specific tests.
  • I am at least 18 years old.
  • I can swallow pills.
  • I have detectable cancer cells in my bone marrow.
  • I do not have any signs of cancer spreading to other parts of my body.

You may not be able to join if

  • I am currently participating in another clinical trial.
  • I have taken experimental treatments within the last month.
  • I have previously used abemaciclib for my treatment.
  • I have a known allergy to hydroxychloroquine.
  • I have had major surgery in the last 14 days.
  • I am pregnant, breastfeeding, or not using effective birth control.
  • I have uncontrolled medical conditions that could affect my participation.

About This Trial
This is a Phase II randomized, controlled, open label breast cancer clinical trial. 66 patients will be enrolled. The drugs being studied are hydroxychloroquine (Plaquenil) and abemaciclib (also Verzenio).
