This trial is looking for people aged 55-85 who have memory loss and have tested positive for amyloid in the brain. Participants will take either glycine and N-acetylcysteine or a placebo to see how it affects their memory.
You may be able to join if
- I am between 55 and 85 years old.
- I have had memory loss for more than a year.
- I scored between 10 and 20 on the Montreal Cognitive Assessment.
- I tested positive for amyloid on a PET scan.
- I have a study partner available.
You may not be able to join if
- I was hospitalized in the past 3 months.
- I take insulin medications.
- I have untreated thyroid disease.
- My creatinine levels are above 1.5 mg/dL.
- My hemoglobin concentration is below 11.0 g/dL.
- I have known liver disease or elevated liver enzymes.
- I have a history of stroke, brain tumor, heart failure, or cancer.
- I have untreated depression or severe psychiatric disorders.

Check Your EligibilityAlzheimer's disease (AD) is associated with significant, progressive cognitive decline. Key defects in mitochondrial fuel metabolism insulin resistance, inflammation and decreased brain glucose uptake are linked to AD. This trial will investigate the effects of supplementing glycine and N-acetylcysteine vs. alanine as placebo on these defects in AD, and examine the effects on cognition.
