Who this trial is looking for

This trial is looking for people aged 18 to 65 who have anxiety disorders and are seeking mental health treatment. Participants will visit the Medical University of South Carolina three times to undergo brain activity measurements and receive rTMS treatment.

Rules you out Seizure disorderNeurological disorderSevere brain injury

You may be able to join if

  • I am between 18 and 65 years old.
  • I have been diagnosed with an anxiety disorder.
  • I am currently seeking mental health treatment.
  • I can read and understand the consent document.
  • English is my first or primary language.

You may not be able to join if

  • I have a current substance use disorder.
  • I have been diagnosed with a psychotic disorder or bipolar mania.
  • I have a neurological disorder that prevents TMS.
  • I have had a traumatic brain injury with loss of consciousness.
  • I am currently pregnant.
  • I have a severe sensitivity to noise.
  • I have a history of seizures or epilepsy.
  • I am currently taking certain medications that are not allowed.

About This Trial
This is a study to find out if a device that temporarily alters brain activity (repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation, rTMS) might be used to change how people with anxiety or related concerns cope with feared or anxiety-producing situations.
