This trial is looking for people with hyperthyroidism who are scheduled for thyroid surgery. Participants will receive Lugol's solution before their surgery to see if it helps reduce complications.
You may be able to join if
- I have been diagnosed with hyperthyroidism
- I am scheduled for thyroid surgery due to toxic nodular goiter or Graves' disease
- I have a free T4 level below 30 pmol/L
- I can provide signed consent to participate
You may not be able to join if
- I have unstable coronary artery disease
- I have had previous thyroid surgery
- I have congestive heart failure
- I have renal insufficiency
- I have hepatic failure
- I currently have an infection
- I am taking steroids or anticoagulants
- I have thyroid associated orbitopathy CAS greater than 2
