Who this trial is looking for

This trial is looking for patients with early-stage breast cancer that tests positive for HER2. Participants will receive one of two treatment options after surgery to see how well they work.

Are You a Good Fit for This Trial?

You may be able to join if

  • I have HER2-positive Stage I invasive breast cancer.
  • I am 18 years or older.
  • I have had surgery for breast cancer within the last 90 days.
  • I have clear margins after my surgery.
  • I have adequate bone marrow function.
  • I have adequate liver function.
  • I can provide tumor tissue samples for research.
  • I have not had whole breast radiation.

You may not be able to join if

  • I have a history of contralateral DCIS.
  • I have active cancer other than my breast cancer.
  • I am currently pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • I have not had a negative pregnancy test if premenopausal.
  • I have had whole breast radiation.
  • I have a left ventricular ejection fraction below 50%.
  • I have a history of severe heart issues.
  • I cannot undergo radiation therapy.

About This Trial

This research study is studying how well newly diagnosed breast cancer that has tested positive for a protein called HER2 responds using one of two different combination of HER2-directed therapies as a treatment after surgery. The name of the study drugs involved are: * Trastuzumab-emtansine (T-DM1, Kadcyla) * Trastuzumab SC (Herceptin Hylecta) * Paclitaxel
