Who this trial is looking for

This trial is looking for people with type 2 diabetes and certain heart issues to study the effects of SGLT2 inhibitors. Participants will be monitored for their heart function and physical abilities.

Are You a Good Fit for This Trial?

You may be able to join if

  • I have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes
  • I have Class II-III heart failure
  • I am between 18 and 80 years old
  • My body mass index (BMI) is between 23 and 38
  • My blood pressure is 145/85 mmHg or lower
  • My blood sugar level (HbA1c) is between 5.5% and 10%
  • My kidney function (eGFR) is 30 ml/min or better
  • I have a stable weight for the last 3 months

You may not be able to join if

  • I have been treated with an SGLT2 inhibitor or GLP-1 RA
  • I am pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant
  • I am allergic to the study drugs or their ingredients
  • I have cancer
  • I currently use drugs or alcohol
  • I cannot give written consent
  • I have severe claustrophobia
  • I have a metal implant that makes MRI impossible

About This Trial

The study team will examine the effects of SGLT2i (and SGLT2i-induced increases in plasma ketone concentrations) on skeletal muscle and cardiac ketone uptake, skeletal muscle bioenergetics, cardiopulmonary exercise capacity, and patient-reported functional outcomes.

Inclusion Criteria: * Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus * Class II-III New York Heart Association (NYHA) heart failure and reduced ejection fraction (EF) \<50% * Age 18-80 years * BMI 23-38 kg/m2 * Glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) 5.5-10% * Blood Pressure (BP) ≤ 145/85 mmHg * Estimated glomerular filtration rate…
