This trial is looking for people who were very sick in the hospital and needed help breathing with a machine. It aims to learn about swallowing problems that can happen after that care.
You may be able to join if
- I have been admitted to an ICU.
- I needed a breathing machine with an endotracheal tube for more than 48 hours.
You may not be able to join if
- I have ongoing issues that prevent me from getting nutrition through food or drink.
- I have had swallowing problems or aspiration before.
- I have a neuromuscular disorder that affects my movements.
- I had a tracheostomy before I was admitted to the ICU.
- I have a history of head or neck cancer or surgery.
- I have bleeding problems that affect my nose or throat.
- I have been confused for more than 96 hours after being taken off the breathing machine.
- I have been off the breathing machine for more than 96 hours.
