This trial is looking for young people aged 12 to 19 who have a normal weight, are overweight, or have obesity and are at risk for type 2 diabetes. Participants will undergo brain scans and cognitive tests to help understand how weight and blood sugar levels affect brain health.
You may be able to join if
- I am between 12 and 19 years old.
- I have a body mass index (BMI) that indicates normal weight, overweight, or obesity.
- I am otherwise healthy except for obesity.
- I can weigh less than 450 pounds.
- I can lie flat for an MRI scan.
- I can do cognitive testing.
- I speak and understand English.
You may not be able to join if
- I have a form of obesity caused by a syndrome.
- I have had bariatric surgery.
- I have received insulin treatment for type 2 diabetes.
- I have metal in my body or claustrophobia that prevents me from having an MRI.
- I wear braces or am pregnant or breastfeeding.
- I cannot participate in cognitive testing due to sensory or language issues.
- I have significant psychiatric disorders.
- I have a history of neurological issues.
