Who this trial is looking for

This trial is looking for people with Parkinson's disease and mild to moderate depression. Participants will take either a probiotic or a placebo for 12 weeks to see if it helps with their mood.

You may be able to join if

  • I have been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease.
  • I am between the ages of 40-80.
  • I have mild to moderate Parkinson's disease.
  • I have mild to moderate depression.
  • I can use birth control if I am a woman of childbearing potential.
  • I agree to maintain my current physical activity levels.
  • I can speak and understand English.

You may not be able to join if

  • I have atypical Parkinsonism.
  • I have active suicidality.
  • I have active psychosis.
  • I have severe depression.
  • I have had a significant change in my Parkinson's medication in the last 2 weeks.
  • I have a significant immune-compromised condition.
  • I currently have an illness or infection.
  • I am pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant.

About This Trial

This study evaluates the use of an oral multi-strain probiotic in the treatment of depression in individuals with Parkinson's Disease. Participants will be randomized to either a 12-week multi-strain probiotic treatment or placebo intervention.

Eligibility Criteria
Inclusion Criteria: 1. Confirmed diagnosis of Parkinson's disease based on UK Brain Bank criteria 2. Between the ages of 40-80 years 3.
