Who this trial is looking for

This trial is looking for adults aged 18 to 79 who have had an acute ischemic stroke. Participants will receive a specific treatment for blocked arteries in the brain to see if it's more effective than other approaches.

You may be able to join if

  • I am between 18 and 79 years old.
  • I have symptoms of an acute ischemic stroke.
  • I have imaging showing a blockage in specific brain arteries.
  • My stroke-related impairment score is 4 or higher.
  • I can start treatment within 16 hours of having a stroke.
  • My health condition before the stroke was stable.
  • I can provide signed consent to participate.
  • I have a particular scoring result on brain imaging.

You may not be able to join if

  • I am pregnant or may be pregnant.
  • I have a severe allergy to contrast media.
  • I have very high blood pressure that isn't controlled.
  • I have evidence of severe brain damage on a CT scan.
  • I have had strokes on both sides of my brain.
  • I cannot take blood-thinning medications.
  • I have certain bleeding disorders or am on blood thinners.
  • I expect to live less than one year.

About This Trial

The primary objective is to establish the efficacy of intra-arterial (IA) mechanical thrombectomy (MT) with extracranial proximal carotid artery acute stenting versus non-stenting approaches in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS) from intracranial vessel occlusion (IVO) in the anterior circulation and have a proximal carotid occlusive disease (occlusion or severe stenosis).

Inclusion Criteria: 1. 18 to 79 years of age (before the 80th birthday) 2. Presenting with symptoms consistent with AIS 3.
