Who this trial is looking for

This trial is looking for people with depression and suicidal thoughts who have not responded to standard treatments. Participants will receive Ketamine while continuing their mental health care.

You may be able to join if

  • I have a current major depressive episode.
  • I have thoughts about wanting to end my life.
  • I have not responded to one or more antidepressant treatments.
  • I am receiving mental health treatment.
  • I have been on my current depression medication for at least 4 weeks.
  • I have been receiving psychotherapy for at least 4 weeks.
  • I am willing to avoid caffeine, drugs, and alcohol for one week before each treatment.
  • I am able to read and write in English.

You may not be able to join if

  • I have had thoughts of suicide with a plan in the last 3 months.
  • I have been hospitalized for psychiatric reasons in the last two months.
  • I have attempted suicide in the last two months.
  • I have a significant neurological disorder.
  • I am currently using Ketamine treatment.
  • I have had a past Ketamine trial that did not help me.
  • I am currently on certain medications like topiramate or ECT.
  • I have a history of violence unless cleared by a doctor.

About This Trial

The purpose of this study is to test the hypothesis that the anti-depressant and anti-suicidal effects of the N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDAR) antagonist Ketamine is critically dependent on stimulation of Alpha-Amino-3-Hydroxy-5-Methyl-4-Isoxazole Propionic Acid receptors (AMPAR).
