Who this trial is looking for
This trial is looking for pregnant women with mild high blood pressure. Participants will either receive treatment to lower their blood pressure or usual care during their pregnancy.
Are You a Good Fit for This Trial?
You may be able to join if
- I have a single baby due
- I do not have any fetal problems
- My blood pressure is between 130-139/80-89mmHg on two different occasions
- I plan to give birth at UAB Hospital
- I do not need to terminate my pregnancy
- I am receiving care at UAB prenatal clinics
You may not be able to join if
- I do not want to participate
- I already have chronic hypertension or take high blood pressure medicine
- I have experienced fetal loss before this trial
- I have been diagnosed with major fetal abnormalities before this trial
- I cannot take first-line medications like Nifedipine or Labetalol
- I have other health issues that require lower blood pressure than 130/80mmHg

About This Trial
The CHAP2 study is designed to provide preliminary data for a larger multicenter study to assess whether treatment of stage 1 hypertension (HTN) in pregnancy improves maternal and or neonatal outcomes. Eligibility Criteria
Inclusion Criteria:
* Viable singleton gestation
* No fetal anomalies
* Blood pressures 130-139/80-89mmHg on two occasions at least 4 hours apart prior to 20 weeks gestation
* Planning to deliver at UAB Hospital
* No indication for pregnancy termination
* Receiving care at the UAB prenatal clinics
