Who this trial is looking for

This trial is looking for older adults who are having major abdominal surgery. Participants will help researchers understand the risk factors for delirium after surgery.

Are You a Good Fit for This Trial?

You may be able to join if

  • I am between 65 and 90 years old
  • I am scheduled for elective major abdominal surgery
  • My surgery is expected to take over 2 hours
  • I have an ASA physical status of I-III

You may not be able to join if

  • I have a Mini-Mental State Examination score below 15
  • I have renal failure and require dialysis
  • I have liver failure with a Child-Pugh score above 5
  • I have severe impairment from brain injury or was in ICU for more than 2 days in the last month
  • I had major heart, lung, or abdominal surgery in the past year
  • I have tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 or have symptoms like fever or cough
  • I cannot complete a cognitive assessment due to being blind or deaf
  • I am homeless, experiencing active psychosis, or abusing substances

About This Trial

Predisposing and precipitating factors for perioperative delirium for the elderly remain elusive. This research will be conducted to determine risk factors of postoperative delirium.
