This trial is looking for adults who need heart surgery but have not had atrial fibrillation or flutter. Participants will receive a specific surgical procedure called posterior pericardiotomy during their surgery.
You may be able to join if
- I am 18 years of age or older
- I need surgery on my aorta, heart valves, or coronary arteries
- I can give my consent to join the trial
You may not be able to join if
- I have a history of atrial fibrillation or flutter
- My heart surgery is for a reason not included in this trial
- I have had previous heart surgery that opened my pericardium
- I have had surgery in my left pleural cavity before
- I am having minimally invasive heart surgery
