Who this trial is looking for

This trial is looking for older patients who are undergoing open abdominal surgery under general anesthesia. Participants will receive either dexmedetomidine or magnesium sulfate during their surgery to help reduce cognitive issues afterward.

You may be able to join if

  • I am classified as ASA physical status I, II, or III
  • I am undergoing open abdominal surgery
  • I will be receiving general anesthesia

You may not be able to join if

  • I have a preoperative MoCA Score below 26
  • My surgery is expected to last more than 4 hours
  • My BMI is more than 35 kg/m2
