Who this trial is looking for

This trial is looking for veterans with obesity to see how a medication called empagliflozin affects their arterial health. Participants will take either the medication or a placebo for 12 weeks.

You may be able to join if

  • I have a body mass index (BMI) of 30-45.
  • I am 30-60 years old.
  • I have evidence of arterial stiffening.

You may not be able to join if

  • I cannot provide consent.
  • I have diabetes.
  • I have uncontrolled high blood pressure.
  • I have a history of heart disease or stroke.
  • I have chronic kidney disease.
  • I have active cancer.
  • I drink excessive alcohol.
  • I am pregnant.

About This Trial

The study will assign participants to take either the medication, empagliflozin or a placebo for 12 weeks. The goal of the study is to determine the effects of empagliflozin on arterial health in Veterans with obesity.
