This trial is looking for people aged 18 to 45 with chronic low back pain. Participants will take part in different types of exercise programs to see how they help with pain and movement over time.

You may be able to join if

  • I am between 18 and 45 years old.
  • I can give my consent to participate.
  • I have had low back pain for more than 3 months.
  • My low back pain causes me pain or difficulty moving.
  • I have a pain score of at least 3 out of 10.
  • I can exercise.

You may not be able to join if

  • I have pain that radiates down my leg.
  • I have been diagnosed with specific conditions for low back pain.
  • I have a history of osteoporosis or arthritis.
  • I currently have a spinal infection or cancer.
  • I have had spinal surgery in the past.
  • I am pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • I have a history of psychiatric illness that requires medication.
  • I cannot understand or communicate in English.

About This Trial

This randomised controlled trial will evaluate the effectiveness of different exercise modalities for individuals with low back pain. Participants will be allocated to one of three groups: a control arm (usual exercise), a running-based intervention, or a swimming/cycling-based intervention. Outcomes related to pain and function will be measured at baseline, 8 weeks, and 12 months.
