This trial is looking for patients with severe emphysema to test a new treatment with a silicone valve. Participants will be evaluated for their lung function and overall health to see if they qualify for the study.
You may be able to join if
- I have been diagnosed with emphysema
- I have not smoked for 4 months
- My BMI is less than 35
- I am stable on my current medications
- My lung function test shows FEV1 between 15% and 45% of predicted value
- My residual volume is less than 175% of the predicted value
- I have little or no collateral ventilation
You may not be able to join if
- I have been hospitalized twice or more in the last year for COPD
- I have been hospitalized twice or more in the last year for pneumonia
- I have had a lung transplant or lung surgery like bullectomy
- I have had a heart attack or heart failure in the last 6 months
- I have heart arrhythmia
- I am alpha-1 antitrypsin deficient
