Since early-onset preeclampsia (EOPE) is commonly associated with inadequate placentation, placental insufficiency, chronic fetal hypoxia, oxidative stress, and heightened inflammation, these pathological processes may adversely affect hippocampal neuronal development and maturation of axonal pathways such as the fornix.
