This trial is looking for adults who need a procedural abortion before 13 weeks of pregnancy. Participants will receive moderate sedation with either diphenhydramine or a placebo to see if it helps reduce pain during the procedure.

You may be able to join if
- I am 18 years or older
- I want a procedural abortion with moderate sedation
- I am less than 13 weeks pregnant
- I have an intrauterine pregnancy or pregnancy of unknown location
- My body mass index is 40 or less
You may not be able to join if
- I want a medical abortion or to continue my pregnancy
- I am more than 13 weeks pregnant
- My body mass index is greater than 40
- I am younger than 18 years
- I have a confirmed ectopic pregnancy
- I have a medical condition that does not allow for moderate sedation

About This Trial
This single center, double blind, randomized controlled trial will evaluate whether adding intravenous diphenhydramine to a standard moderate sedation regimen improves pain control during first trimester procedural abortion. Participants undergoing uterine aspiration at less than 13 weeks gestation will be randomized 1 to 1 to receive standard moderate sedation with midazolam and fentanyl plus eit…

* Adults age 18 years and older
* Desire procedural abortion with moderate sedation
* Gestational age less than or equal to 13 weeks
* Intrauterine pregnancy or pregnancy of unknown location
* Body mass index less than or equal to 40
