Who this trial is looking for
This trial is looking for children aged 5 to 17 who have asthma and are exposed to cockroaches. Participants will use a simple insect bait at home for 12 months to reduce cockroach numbers and improve asthma symptoms.
Are You a Good Fit for This Trial?
You may be able to join if
- I am between 5 and 17 years old.
- I have uncontrolled persistent asthma.
- I have had at least one overnight hospitalization for asthma in the past six months or two unscheduled clinic or emergency visits for asthma in the past year.
- I take an asthma controller medication or have asthma symptoms 3 or more days per week for the past 2 weeks.
- I experience nighttime asthma symptoms at least 3 times in the past month.
- I have seen cockroaches in my home or have trapped at least one cockroach in a 3-day period.
- I sleep in my home at least 4 nights a week on average.
- My caregiver can speak English or Spanish.
You may not be able to join if
- I have serious medical or chronic illnesses that need daily medication.
- I have chronic respiratory infections that require daily medication.
- I have cardiovascular disease that needs daily medication.
- I am a current active smoker.
- I am currently receiving immunotherapy.
- I plan to move within the next 12 months.

The Allergen Reduction and Child Health Study (ARCHS) is a 12-month, two group randomized control trial of children with asthma and who are exposed to cockroaches.
