Who this trial is looking for

This trial is looking for people with type 2 diabetes and heart disease or at high risk for heart disease. Participants will take one of two medications and will be monitored for heart, kidney, and death-related events over time.

Are You a Good Fit for This Trial?

You may be able to join if

  • I have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.
  • I have an HbA1c level of 6% or higher.
  • I am between 40 and 80 years old and have heart disease.
  • I am between 60 and 80 years old and have at least one heart risk factor.
  • I agree to be randomly assigned to one of the two medications.
  • I will avoid starting other treatments in the alternative group.
  • I am willing to let my medical records be accessed for this study.
  • I have been told my doctor will manage my diabetes medications.

You may not be able to join if

  • I have type 1 diabetes or diabetes due to other causes.
  • I have a history of diabetic ketoacidosis.
  • I am currently being treated for cancer or have had cancer that may return.
  • I have heart failure as a main reason for being hospitalized in the last year.
  • I have a kidney function of less than 45 ml/min.
  • I cannot afford the study medications through my insurance.
  • I have an allergy to SGLT2 inhibitors or GLP-1 receptor agonists.
  • I have had a solid organ or bone marrow transplant.

PRECIDENTD is a randomized, open label, pragmatic clinical trial designed to compare rates of the total number of cardiovascular, kidney, and death events among two alternative treatments for patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D) and either established atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) or at high risk for ASCVD.
