This trial is looking for caregivers of adults with dementia or cognitive impairment who experience pain. If you participate, you will receive training to help you recognize and communicate about pain in those you care for.
Are You a Good Fit for This Trial?
You may be able to join if
- I am 21 years or older
- I can speak English
- I provide care to an adult with dementia or cognitive impairment
- My care recipient has a pain diagnosis
- I visit the care recipient at least once a week
- I am cognitively intact
- I can be reached by phone
You may not be able to join if
- I am a paid caregiver
- I am younger than 21 years
- I do not speak English
- I am cognitively impaired
- I do not care for someone with dementia or cognitive impairment who has pain
- My care recipient is enrolled in hospice
- I visit my care recipient less than once a week
- I cannot be reached by phone

About This Trial
This study will evaluate the Pain Identification and Communication Toolkit (PICT), a multicomponent intervention for caregivers of people with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD). PICT provides training in observational pain assessment and coaching in effective pain communication techniques. Eligibility Criteria
CAREGIVER PARTICIPANTS
Inclusion Criteria:
1. Age 21 or older
2. Any gender
3. English speaking
4. Cognitively intact (BOMC ≤10)
5. Provides care to a community-dwelling adult with dementia or cognitive impairment who also has a pain diagnosis
6. Care recipient is not enrolled in hospice
