Who this trial is looking for
This trial is looking for patients who are in the hospital after having a stroke. Participants will receive extra help to prevent falls and will be asked about any falls they have after leaving the hospital.
Are You a Good Fit for This Trial?
You may be able to join if
- I am in the hospital for rehabilitation after having a stroke.
- I have tested positive for fall risk.
- I have not fallen before my stroke.
- I lived independently before my stroke.
- I can follow simple instructions.
- I can stand up for 10 seconds with some help.
You may not be able to join if
- I have had a brain bleed due to an injury.
- I have had a prior stroke that left me with physical or mental problems.
- I used a walking aid before my stroke.
- I have been diagnosed with dementia.
- I have trouble understanding spoken language.
- I have received chemotherapy in the last 6 months.
- I have any type of cancer that has spread to my brain.

About This Trial
After stroke, falling is a common problem. Falls can lead to injury, as well as fear of future falls. It is important to try to prevent falls from happening after stroke. To goal of this study is to test a new treatment to try to prevent falls after stroke. The people in the study will be patients who are in the hospital receiving care after a stroke. Eligibility Criteria
Inclusion Criteria:
* Inpatient rehabilitation admission for diagnosis of stroke
* Test positive for fall risk at admission (step-test and obstacle-test, "STOB", \>/= 3 out of 8 and/or Berg Balance Scale \</=43)
* No pre-stroke history of falls
