Who this trial is looking for
This trial is looking for new mothers who had a premature baby and need support after birth. Participants will receive help from a doula in the hospital and in the community after leaving the hospital.
Are You a Good Fit for This Trial?
You may be able to join if
- I am at least 16 years old when my baby is born
- My baby was born at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania
- My baby was born preterm (less than 34 weeks)
- I speak English
You may not be able to join if
- I cannot read or sign consent forms
- My baby was transferred to another hospital before coming to HUP NICU
- The medical team thinks my baby may not survive or might be transferred soon
- I am under 16 years old when my baby is born

About This Trial
This is a randomized controlled trial of a dyad-centered, doula support and healthcare coordination model of care in a large urban neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), which serves a high-risk, low-income, majority Black population. Eligibility Criteria
Inclusion Criteria:
* HUP postpartum patients who are at least 16 years old at the time their newborns' birth
* Infant born at HUP
* Preterm birth \<34 weeks
* English language speaking
Exclusion Criteria:
* Unable to read or sign informed consent
* Parents of infants transferred into HUP NICU
